The EMPODAT database consists of two inter-linked modules:

The Chemistry module for monitoring/occurrence data on emerging substances, which are already known to be present in the environment but that are not yet included in routine monitoring programmes.
The Bio-monitoring module for field data and related metadata obtained from bio-monitoring approaches, i.e., biological effects measured by bio-assays and biomarkers in different environmental matrices.

The database will also include information on (i) exposure related properties and (ii) risk assessment. It will be accompanied by a set of guidelines and protocols to enable the end-user to interpret the data and judge their representativeness, quality and comparability.

How to submit the data

The web application allowing for on-line upload of data via Internet will be ready in March 2007, until then they will be collected by means of pre-formatted Excel sheets.
